Harriet Tubman Award

The Harriet Tubman Award Is given to a non-attorney from each of the five districts. All members of the association are requested to submit the name and supporting statements of achievements of an individual who has distinguished him/herself in service to the community i.e. political, educational, social, economically, religiously, etc. (non-attorney award) The award is presented during the Mid Winter Banquet.

Young Hall Scholarship

A scholarship to be awarded to a second or third year African American law student to attend the law school of his/her choice. Said person must be accepted and enrolled In law school before receiving the award. The award and scholarship committee will screen the applicants and the recipient will be selected by the Executive Committee.

Lawyer Awards

Each year during the annual convention, awards are presented to lawyers who are active (dues paid) members of the association. The awards are as follows:

R. Jess Brown Award
the highest award given by the association for outstanding achievement.

Alfred Rhodes, Jr. Service Award
presented to the member who has done the most work in support of the association.

Government Service Award
given to a member in government service who has distinguished him/herself.

Civil Service Award
awarded to a member working for legal services.

Procedures are as follows:

1. The Awards and Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Awards and Scholarship Committee.
2. All members of the association are requested to submit nominations to the Awards and Scholarship Committee.
3. All nominations should be accompanied by a supporting statement of achievements.
4. All nominees and/or recipients must be active (dues paid) members of the Association. (except for Scholarship)
